 Blog 1:

I conducted my composition interview with my father.

The one and only question I asked was how do you define composition?

My father's responses were mixed media, colors in a painting, composing different ideas and writing an essay.  Aggregation of different thoughts, words, ideas and mediums that come together to make a composition.  The act of combining different things.

My father explained to me that his idea of composition is a flower garden (which is his favorite activity to do).  He uses plants that are small and big, short and tall, different colors, and different species of flowers that bloom at different times of the year.

The highlight of my conversation was that it open my perspective on what compostion is.  When I first read the assisgnment the only thing I thought about was writing.  I did not think that compostion had a multiple of meanings.  By talking to my father I learned that composition can be anything.

Blog 2:

I  actually transcribed all of it on paper.  Im not a big fan of recording and re-listening, plus it was my dad so if I  didnt catch it the first time, I  kindly asked hime to repeat it.  We were sitting at his house in the livingroom watching and listening to the golf tournament, cheering on Tiger Woods!

Blog 3:

After putting in my post of composition I went back and read other and realized that other people also see composition as an art and not just writing.  But there are some who think the same way that I  do, that composition is a form of writing.

What is emergence?

I  see emergence as something new coming through, emerging from a complex situation.

Im not too sure if I  am doing this right!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aristotle, - took me to a biblography of Aristotle, I  chose this one because I think that aristotle was an amazing creator of history!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophy  - took me to the definition of philosophy, I picked the word philosophy and decided to post it because the first sentence was general and fundemental problems concerning matters, which emergence ususally comes out of problems.  So I figured it would fit.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious_naturalism- took me to religious naturalism, I just picked to see what the definition was.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interaction- definition of interaction, an emergence could happen after two more things have an interaction

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physics -definition of physics, emergence is used to describe a property, law, or phenomenon which occurs at macroscopic scales in space or time, it explains a different type of emergence and gives a different perspective.

ok so I will explain the purpose of this picture, my daughter is in love with this show and she sits and watches me do my homework so I figure I would put something up that would amuse her!

Narrative

I  would say that a narrative is something spoken by another person, usually in first person, explaining a story or some event that has occured or in the process of occuring.  I  googled the term narrative and from what I  read and understood a narrative can be anything that defines a story, whether it be a movie, poem, a piece of art or the most common someone telling their own story.  Narratives can also be either fictional or non-fictional.  When I hear the term narrative, I tend to reflect back on my childhood and remember the cartoon mickey's christmas carol, because it was told in a narrative format and it was my favorite movie!

Definition

To me defintion writing is taking facts and putting them together.  Being very descriptive when writing, maybe more non-fictional, something such as a biblography comes to mind.   My writings tend to be like a defintion, I  rarely use my immagination, I try to use as much facts as I can, instead of trying to tell a story, I basically cite everything.  which to me would fall under this defintion category.  Other than this short paragraphy I  dont really know what defintion writing is.

What is life?

As I began to read this I was a bit confused, now I am just trying to remember what the heck the article is about since I slacked off and forgot to write about it.  My favorite quote from the article is the biological self incorporates not only food, water and air - its physical requirements -but facts, experiences, and sense impressions, which may become memories.  To survive, an organic being must perceive.  I may be looking too far into it, but I believe that a person cannot only survive on food and water.  A mind is a mysterious object in the body, and it needs to be fed just as much as anything else.  Life is choatic and the mind is what goes through each and every part of the chaos and determines whether to keep it and translate it or find a way to delete it.  The article had me a little lost in the begining but after reading it I was able to grasp a understanding what was going on.

Feedback

N8’s – I have actually never worked in a restaurant, however it doesn’t seem like you had a good day.  That sucks that people really treat others like that.  But everything that you wrote was very good, I did like the timing that you put it in and how you wrote what you were thinking while you were serving these individuals.  Sorry that you have such crappy people to wait on.  Just remember that they probably live very miserable lives and they want to make everyone else’s the same.

Sue’s – I can somewhat relate to your chaos that goes on every day.  I took run around like a chicken all day trying to put together my day.  I love how you describe turning off the alarm and the emotion you put into everything you are doing all day long.  You write about what you are thinking at each moment, I actually feel like I am sitting with you listening to what you have to say and I can actually picture your day!

Jacob Parker- That was probably the best narrative I have read.  It kept me interested.  Once I started to read it I could not stop.  The narrative was very descriptive and kept my attention the whole time, I was sad to see that it had ended.  It was great!

So I took Nates narrative and changed his really bad day to a good! A little humor in it!

Hey, how are you my name is Nate and I'll be talking care of you tonight.   What can I get for you to drink?  I will have tea and a coke, thank you!

7:45 I find myself repeatedly hitting the snooze button yet another time before I crawl out of bed.

8:15 I wake up and take the dogs out, make lunch for my wife, make breakfast.

8:30 Eat breakfast.

8:45 I kiss my wife goodbye and tell her to have a good day at work.

9:15 Balance the checkbook and check my email.

9:30 Start homework

11:30 Eat Lunch, and head to work

12:00 Clock in, and get started

12:10 Get my first table here we go: Hey, how are you guys today? My name is Nate, and I will be taking care of you today. Can I start you out with something to drink?

"I will have a water with lemon, and I will have an Iced Tea.

I will be right back with that for you.

12:11 Drop off the drinks, are you guys all set to order or do you need another minute?

We are ready...I will have the JD chicken sandwich with fries. I will have the Pecan Crusted chicken salad.

12:20 Drop of the food, Can I get you guys anything else? No it looks good thank you.

12:35 Can I take these plates out of the way for you guys?

Yes

Can I get you anything else?

No, thank you

Ok, (drop the check), I will leave this here for whenever you guys are ready.

12:37 Take the check, run credit card and return it, Thank you, very much you guys have a great day!

12:40 Clean the table. Close out the check and look at the tip like every server does. The bill was 16 dollars and they left me a 5 dollar tip. A very nice way to start out the day. That was a good table and the day proceeds mostly the same until I get that table.

I decided to pick Nate’s to change his that table into a great one!

2:45 That table, here we go:

First, let me describe that table so that you can get a feel of what I am talking about. They walk in and don't even acknowledge the host/hostess, and seat themselves. The host comes over and gives them menus which they snatch out of their hand and say uh can we get a server over here.

So now I’m changing the scene, they walk in and wait to be seated, and wait for the hostess to bring over the menus, and while they are looking at them Nate stops by to get the drink orders!  The politely ask for  water and coke, which Nate is so happy that he doesn’t have one those mean tables!

Ok here were go:(I am telling myself be nice smile) Hi, what can I get for you guys to eat today?

Can I please have the Pecan Chicken salad with no bleu cheese, and dressing on the side, by any chance can I have the oranges and cranberries taken off the salad and would it be too much trouble to have grilled chicken instead?

Nate:  No the chicken will be fine, and I will put the other requests in for you.

May I please have the JD burger extra extra well done and could you please make sure it is well done.

Nathan, Smile: Ok, I will put that right in for you.

3:04 Put in the order which takes me about 3 minutes because of all the SI's (special instructions).

3:20 Bring out the food: Here we are everyone

The food is fantastic…..thanks for being such a wonderful waiter Nate!

3:35 Still doing good over here?

Would you please get our checks and I would like to speak to a manager!

3:36 Print out their checks, and grab my manger.

3:37 Listen while they tell my manager what a faboulous job I have done today!

(This puts a smile on my face)

I process the payment and bring it back to them: You all have a good day!

3:50 Go back to the table to clean it off which takes me a good 2 minutes because they cleaned the table for me.

3:55 Check the tip: Total bill $32.00 tip $10.00.

Final Project

Final Project Ideas N8-n-Kelly

Scope

What has emerged is a bunch of ideas from different individuals.  This semester has been the most eye opening for me.  I have never read so many different interesting things.  I never realized that there writing is an endless piece of art.  People/students have turned writing into an art work that is different.  I look at other classmate’s pages and each time I read something, I seem something different, and think to myself “how do they come up with this stuff”.  My imagination is definitely not working like theirs.  To me it is mind blowing how the minds of each individual works.  Maybe great minds really don’t think alike, since everyone in this class has different work and reads each assignment and comes out with something different.  I think that this class has shown me that no matter what we write there is no wrong way to write.  The best part of this class is that there is no wrong way to write or to understand an assignment.  Beside working on the wiki and coming up with different ideas, we have the most interesting conversations in class, that should be posted on the wiki, that way we can always go back and reflect on what we talked about.
